Apprenticed to a Port Glasgow firm in 1983 Brian served a four year apprenticship as well as four years at James Watt College in Greenock achieving both City & Guilds and City & Guilds Advanced craft in Painting & Decorating. In 1991 Brian  decided to leave Scotland to gain more experience working in Jersey in the channel Islands. Working for a large Jersey based team of quality decorators mainly in Jerseys exclusive Hotel de France as well as various private clients Brian was selected to travel to St Malo in France for a course in hanging speciality wallcoverings to progress in the two year refurbishment of the Hotel de France . After the refurbishment Brian returned to Scotland to continue his career.

In 2002 Brian decided to go into business for himself and formed Brian Ramsay:Decorators and has built a regular client base and also gained a reputation for quality and professionalism providing a friendly personal service to his clients from start to finish.
